What are the advantages of consulting scholarly journals in an academic dissertation as compared to text books?

Re: Academic Dissertation.
Textbooks are themselves based on scholarly work such as scholalry journal articles. In addition, journals are more frequently published and contain more recent information. Textbooks on the other hand take longer to publish and then they remain in the curriculum for a longer period which renders most of the information in them rather obsolete. Moerover, scholarly journals contain specialised information and are far better than textbooks so they are better for use in an academic dissertation.
